Football legend David Beckham and Prince William shared a warm encounter at the RAF Northolt event in London this week, fueling further speculation about a rift between the Beckhams and the Sussexes. The duo, all smiles, greeted each other, posed for pictures, and even signed the aircraft during the London Air Ambulance charity event. Prince William had reportedly invited Beckham to be a part of the Omaze campaign for the appeal, which successfully raised £4 million for its cause.
This interaction comes just a day after Prince Harry made a solo trip to the UK to attend the Wellchild Awards. The Duke of Sussex’s absence of his wife, Meghan Markle, has become a recurring theme in his recent public appearances. The Beckham-William interaction sparked fresh buzz regarding a potential estrangement between the two families.
While David and Victoria Beckham attended the Royal wedding in May 2018, their relationship with the Sussexes appears to have cooled over the years. Royal expert Richard Eden attributed this seeming estrangement to the Beckhams’ ‘ardent royalism.’ He wrote in the Daily Mail, “It is perhaps, no surprise that the Sussexes’ attacks on the Royal Family failed to impress the Beckhams.”
According to an Express report, citing an associate, David and Victoria Beckham “put great importance on family and would never ever turn on their relations” in the manner of Harry and Meghan.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry is continuing his solo trip to southern Africa, after his engagements in London. He will be making a four-day visit, which will include stops in Lesotho and Johannesburg. Harry co-founded the Sentebale charity with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, initially to help young people affected by HIV/AIDS. The charity has expanded its focus to support children and young people facing various challenges related to health, inequality, and climate change.
