Ben Curtis, a 34-year-old jockey, has made the move to the United States and has secured his first mount in the prestigious Kentucky Derby. Curtis, who has ridden over 1,000 winners in Britain, made the switch last year to pursue his dreams.
He has since ridden 43 winners at Fair Grounds in New Orleans and will now partner with Honor Marie in the Kentucky Derby.
Curtis said of Honor Marie’s last run: “It was probably a personal best from Honor Marie and I found him very easy to ride.”
“He’s been training well since and when I flew to Churchill last week to breeze him he looked a million dollars.”
“Some horses going into the race will have question marks over their stamina, but all Honor Marie has ever done in his races is finish strong and close late. He’s going to thrive over the trip and he’s already got winning form at Churchill.”
