This directive from Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra is a precautionary response to prevent similar tragedies in Bengaluru.
In a letter addressed to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner, Home Minister Jnanendra emphasized the significance of stringent safety protocols in high-traffic entertainment venues. He stressed that adhering to appropriate safety measures and precautions is crucial to avert untoward fire disasters in such spaces. According to a report by Hindustan Times (HT), the minister stated that he has directed the civic body to swiftly implement fail-safe measures across recreational places in the city and ensure regular checks to prevent fire mishaps.
The incident in Rajkot, Gujarat, occurred at a gaming centre on Nana-Mava Road on Saturday, trapping several people, including children, inside a dome-like structure that quickly engulfed in flames and collapsed. The local authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire, and the establishment’s owner has been taken into custody. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the tragic event and assured that the local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected.
