The BTM Layout area in Bengaluru, Karnataka, faced severe waterlogging on Monday, causing major traffic disruptions as heavy rainfall wreaked havoc across the city. Numerous vehicles, including a truck, were seen navigating through the flooded streets. The video of the waterlogged street, shared on the social media platform X, garnered around 4000 views within hours. One user commented that the miserable condition of the streets reflects a difficult life for people in Bengaluru.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of “very heavy rainfall” over several regions of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and north interior Karnataka for the next five days, extending until August 17. The IMD has also predicted “isolated heavy rainfall” over northeast and east India for the next seven days and over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and North Interior Karnataka for five days.
Bengaluru has been experiencing widespread disruption and traffic congestion due to heavy rainfall since August. The Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Nagavara and Hebbal was significantly impacted, while the Hebbal Junction, a crucial route to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), experienced intense flooding last week, leading to considerable airport traffic disruptions.
Several areas, including Koramangala, Ramamurthy Nagar, Indiranagar, RT Nagar, Thanisandra, RR Nagar, Kengeri, Banashankari, Nayandahalli, Malleswaram, Yeshwanthpur, BTM Layout, Marathalli, and Whitefield, experienced thunderstorms after a brief period of rising temperatures. The Hindu reported that poor street lighting and numerous potholes made night travel particularly hazardous for commuters.
