Bengaluru Flooded: Manyata Tech Park Turns into ‘Manyata Tech Falls’ Amid Heavy Rainfall

Bengaluru is battling a deluge of rain, leaving several areas of the city inundated with water. The relentless downpour has not only crippled roads but also impacted India’s largest office space, Manyata Tech Park, located in the heart of Bengaluru’s Silicon Valley. The 300-acre tech village has transformed into a waterlogged haven, prompting authorities to advise employees to remain inside their offices until the flooding subsides.

Social media platforms have been flooded with concerning images and videos showcasing the severity of the situation. One video shared by the Karnataka Portfolio social media handle depicts Manyata Tech Park inundated with water, showcasing cars stranded on flooded roads. What particularly caught the eye was a cascading torrent of water flowing down a wall, resembling a waterfall, earning the tech park a new moniker – ‘Manyata Tech Falls’. Another video captured cars attempting to navigate through the inundated streets, leading one X user to post a sarcastic caption, labeling the tech park as ‘Manyata Tech Falls’ and jokingly presenting it as a new tourist destination. However, the user also expressed concern, urging authorities to address the situation and implement proper flood management measures.

The caption read: “Another achievement of brand Bengaluru unveiled in Namma Bengaluru. Due to heavy rains, Manyata Tech Park has turned into a flooded spectacle humorously dubbed ‘Manyata Tech Falls.’ While it’s being seen as a new sightseeing spot, this highlights serious issues in Bengaluru’s infrastructure and drainage systems.” The caption further added: “It’s a wake-up call for authorities to address these recurring problems and ensure proper flood management in the city’s key business districts.”

Social media users based in Bengaluru were not surprised by the videos, with one X user commenting: “Wow, it was a lake. Of course, water would flow towards it because that’s the way it has always known.” Manyata Tech Park is situated on the banks of Nagawara Lake, on the Outer Ring Road. Another user expressed their concern, stating, “This is so scary.”

In response to the heavy rainfall forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Bengaluru, as reported by PTI. To ensure the safety of students, the government has ordered the closure of all aided and private schools, Anganwadi centers, and high schools in the city on October 16, 2024. Public schools are already closed for Dussehra holidays, according to the PTI report.

The flooding in Manyata Tech Park and the widespread waterlogging across Bengaluru serve as a stark reminder of the city’s vulnerability to heavy rainfall and the urgent need for robust infrastructure and drainage systems to prevent such occurrences in the future.
