Bengaluru Rains Bring Relief After Dry Spell
Bengaluru has received intermittent rainfall over the past few days, providing much-needed relief to residents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted partly cloudy skies with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers until May 12th.
The heavy rainfall has resulted in waterlogging in several parts of the city, including major thoroughfares like Hebbal flyover and Maharani underpass. Strong gusts have also led to the felling of numerous trees in areas such as Jayamahal Road and Kathriguppe.
This rainfall is a welcome respite after Bengaluru experienced its driest April in 41 years. The city received no rainfall throughout the month, marking the first occurrence of such an event since 1983. Last month, Bengaluru endured its second-hottest day in April in at least 50 years, with temperatures reaching 38.5 degrees Celsius.
The rainfall has elicited mixed reactions on social media. While some users celebrated the relief from the dry spell, others expressed concern about the waterlogging and its potential impact on infrastructure. Netizens highlighted the city’s recent water shortage crisis and emphasized the need for sustainable water management practices.
The IMD forecast indicates that the rainfall is expected to continue intermittently over the next few days. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and remain updated on weather conditions.
