Chopra narrated her experience on a social media platform. She was on an office call when she received a call from an elderly man claiming to be her father. He said he needed to send money but was unable to due to a technical issue. He requested Chopra to receive the amount and forward it to him.
However, Chopra became suspicious when she observed the SMS notifications for the supposed credit transactions came from a 10-digit phone number instead of a company ID. She also noticed the man’s urgency in getting the money back, which raised further concerns.
Chopra’s post garnered widespread attention and many others shared their similar experiences. One user mentioned their father falling victim to the scam and sending money to the fraudsters. Another user highlighted the sophistication of the scam messages, with hardly any noticeable issues.
Chopra advises people to be vigilant and always verify transactions through their actual bank accounts rather than solely relying on SMS notifications. It’s crucial to check the sender’s information carefully and be wary of any sense of urgency or pressure to complete the transaction.
