Passenger numbers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) continued their upward trend during the first half of 2024. Between January and June, a total of 11.8 million passengers passed through the airport, representing a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth was reflected in aircraft movements as well, with an 11.7% increase, totaling around 87,000 take-offs and landings.
June 2024 witnessed a particularly strong performance, with approximately 2.34 million passengers utilizing BER. This marked an 11.6% increase from June 2023, which saw around 2.1 million passengers. June 14th emerged as the busiest day, with 89,580 passengers passing through the airport.
However, when compared to June 2019, when Tegel and Schönefeld airports combined recorded 3.26 million passengers, June 2024 experienced a 28.3% decrease. The number of aircraft movements in June 2024 reached 17,980, representing a 10.7% increase from the 16,243 movements in June 2023. In comparison, Tegel and Schönefeld airports together saw 25,707 flight movements in June 2019.
BER also set a new record for air freight in June 2024, handling around 3,961 tonnes. This marked a significant 47.2% increase from June 2023’s 2,690 tonnes and a 33.8% increase from June 2019’s 2,960 tonnes.
