Beware: Millions of Brits Overpaying for Mobile and Broadband Bills, Warns MoneySavingExpert

Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE), has issued a warning to millions of Brits who could be paying more than necessary for their mobile and broadband services. In the recent MSE newsletter, Lewis highlighted that mobile and broadband customers have already faced a significant increase of up to 8.8% in their bills this April.

Lewis emphasizes that this is an opportune moment to assess if you are overpaying, as there should be no further price increases for a year. He encourages customers to compare prices and take advantage of out-of-contract offers.

“Comparing [prices] now is a completely level playing field, giving a true comparison as you know there shouldn’t be any price rises for a year. This isn’t small potatoes. And with 20 million of you OUT OF CONTRACT and thus free to move, this is a no-brainer for many and only takes a few minutes,” Lewis said.

The MSE team provides a three-step guide to help mobile and broadband customers reduce their bills:

For mobile customers:

1. Check your contract status by texting “INFO” to 85075.
2. If out of contract, consider switching to a cheaper SIM-only deal, such as those offered by iD Mobile, TalkMobile, and Lebara.
3. To retain your phone number during switching, text “PAC” to 65075 to obtain a “Porting Authorisation Code” and forward it to your new provider.

For broadband customers:

1. Aim to keep your monthly bill below £30 unless you require exceptional speeds.
2. If out of contract, explore switching to a more cost-effective provider through comparison sites.
3. Consider bundling broadband, TV, and phone services with a single provider for potential savings.
