Bicyclist Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Saginaw County Collision

A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Monday when colliding with a car in Saginaw County, police said.

Deputies responded to reports of a crash around 4:35 p.m., April 22 to East Road and Banner Street in Spaulding Township south of Saginaw, said the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined both the bicyclist and a driver in a Chevrolet Malibu were heading north on East Road when the driver attempted to pass the bicyclist, police said.

The bicyclist entered the northbound lane of travel sharply and into the path of the car, police said witnesses told them, and the car struck the bicycle.

The driver was a 65-year-old Chesaning Township woman, and the bicyclist was a 18-year-old Saginaw man, police said.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, police said.

The crash is under further investigation.
