According to Republican strategist Karl Rove, a debate between former President Trump and current President Biden would be the most significant one in recent decades. Appearing on Fox News, Rove stated that such a debate would be ‘the most important presidential debate, if it happens, since at least the 1980 presidential debate.’ In an interview with radio host Howard Stern, Biden indicated his willingness to debate his former 2020 rival for the presidency, saying, ‘I am, somewhere. I don’t know when, but I am happy to debate him.’ Rove drew parallels to the 1980 debate between incumbent President Carter and his challenger, former President Reagan, highlighting the significant impact Reagan’s performance had on swaying undecided voters. Biden has previously stated that committing to a debate with Trump ‘depends on his behavior,’ citing concerns about Trump’s conduct during the 2020 election cycle. In response to Biden’s comments, Trump posted on Truth Social, expressing his willingness to debate ‘ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.’ Three presidential debates have been scheduled for the 2024 cycle, starting in September, along with one vice presidential debate.
