President Biden sparked controversy at the White House’s Fourth of July barbecue, claiming to have been ‘in and out of battles’ while addressing military service members and their families. This statement, from a president who has never served in the military, drew immediate criticism from veterans groups.
Veterans 4 America First Institute, a non-profit veterans’ group, voiced their concerns about the president’s remarks. Peter O’Rourke, a former Acting Secretary for Veterans Affairs under President Trump and a veteran of both the Air Force and Navy, expressed disappointment at the continued disrespect towards veterans and the politicization of events meant to honor their service.
Darin Selnick, a former Veteran Affairs Advisor for the White House Domestic Policy Council and a former Air Force veteran, also condemned Biden’s statement, calling it inappropriate to equate the president’s experience with the service of those who have actually been in battle. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the servicemen and women and not making the day about personal gain.
The institute, which supports former President Trump, believes that the country needs a commander-in-chief who will prioritize the needs of veterans and the military. They believe that under Trump’s leadership, the military flourished, and they are advocating for his return to office.
The White House has not responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter.
