Biden Expresses Gratitude to Hillary Clinton at CGI Summit

President Joe Biden, during his appearance at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) summit in New York City, expressed his appreciation for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, highlighting her public support during his presidential campaign.

While not initially scheduled to speak at the summit, Biden, accompanied by his wife Jill, was invited to the stage to receive the 2024 Clinton Global Citizen Award. Before acknowledging the award, Biden jokingly remarked, “This is what you call being trapped.” He then turned to Hillary and said, “Hillary, I want to thank you—and I maybe shouldn’t do this publicly—but thank you personally for the way you have helped me, the way you’ve spoken up for me with such passion. I can’t tell you—you can ask Jill. Anyway, I love you.” Hillary responded with a simple “thank you” as Bill Clinton, her husband, put his arm around her.

Bill Clinton, presenting the award to Biden, praised his dedication to achieving results, stating, “He’s provided a playbook for getting things done.” He added, “We honor him today, not just for what he’s accomplished, but for the way he has done it.” Biden, in turn, acknowledged Bill Clinton’s “decency” and “incredible intellect.”

The Clintons’ public endorsement of Biden came after his controversial debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27, 2023. Following the debate, some Democratic leaders, including former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, expressed concerns about Biden’s mental acuity, prompting calls for him to step aside. However, the Clintons, along with other prominent figures, publicly expressed their support for Biden, providing him with a much-needed boost.

During the CGI summit, Jill Biden unveiled a new initiative focused on addressing health disparities faced by women in the United States. This initiative includes a commitment to invest at least $500 million annually in women’s health research, demonstrating a continued focus on improving healthcare outcomes for women.
