US President Joe Biden, 81, made another embarrassing gaffe on Tuesday during a campaign event at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. While criticizing his predecessor, Donald Trump, for the repeal of abortion rights, Biden said, “we can’t be trusted.” The remark came as Biden was addressing the “healthcare crisis for women all over this country” caused by the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. He blamed Trump for taking away women’s fundamental constitutional right to abortion and claimed that women in America now have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers. “I don’t think we’ll let him get away with it, do you?” he asked the crowd, receiving a resounding “No” in response. Biden also expressed surprise at Trump’s actions, saying, “Folks, in a sense, I don’t know why we’re surprised by Trump. How many times does he have to prove we can’t be trusted? Trump bragged how proud he was to get rid of Roe v. Wade.” This gaffe is just one of several recent misstatements by President Biden. On April 18, he mixed up the Israeli port city of Haifa with the southern Gaza city of Rafah during an interview with Reshad Hudson of Nexstar Media. In March, he mistakenly claimed that the US had the lowest inflation rates of any country in America. And last month, a video went viral of Biden erroneously saying that the US would be airdropping food and supplies into Ukraine instead of Gaza. In February, he momentarily confused Hamas with the term “opposition” when discussing hostage negotiations with Israel but quickly corrected himself.
