Biden Highlights Trump’s Bleach Comment as Campaign Against Former President Intensifies

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden has seized upon a controversial statement made by his predecessor, Donald Trump, regarding the use of disinfectant to treat COVID-19, using it as a talking point to criticize Trump’s handling of the pandemic. Biden has repeatedly brought up Trump’s suggestion during speeches, on social media, and even aboard Air Force One. “Remember when he was trying to deal with COVID, he said just inject a little bleach in your veins?” Biden said during a recent speech. “He missed it. It all went to his hair.” The following day, Biden shared a video clip of Trump’s disinfectant comment on Twitter, adding, “Don’t inject bleach. And don’t vote for the guy who told you to inject bleach.” During a White House briefing in 2020, Trump had pondered the possibility of injecting disinfectant into the body to fight the virus. “And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute,” Trump had said. “One minute,” he emphasized. “And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that.” Trump’s comments sparked widespread backlash, prompting health officials to issue warnings against ingesting or injecting disinfectants. Biden has used this incident to paint Trump as reckless and irresponsible, emphasizing the importance of listening to scientific experts when it comes to public health matters.
