US President Joe Biden has assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of timely delivery of air defense weaponry once the Senate approves the proposed national security aid package.
The substantial package, amounting to $61 billion, also includes long-range and artillery capabilities, as confirmed by Zelensky in a social media post. Biden expressed America’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s struggle against Russian aggression.
Zelensky highlighted Russia’s relentless air attacks using missiles, drones, and bombs, targeting civilian infrastructure, including the Kharkiv television tower.
The shortage of air defense systems in Kharkiv has allowed Russia to inflict significant damage on the city’s energy infrastructure.Discussions between Biden and Zelensky also covered the provision of artillery shells, long-range missiles, electronic warfare equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, and combat aviation. Zelensky emphasized the importance of developing Ukraine’s defense industry.
A bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers, including Congressmen Tom Kean Jr., Nathaniel Moran, Bill Keating, and Congresswoman Madeleine Deane, recently visited Kyiv.
The delegation acknowledged the urgent need for aid to counter Russia’s offensive and urged Biden to swiftly provide Ukraine with the requested weapons, including the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).The White House confirmed Biden’s commitment to expediting aid packages upon Senate approval of the funding bill. The US remains dedicated to financial stability, infrastructure restoration, and supporting Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration efforts.
