Biden to Address Nation on July 24th, Focusing on Future Plans

US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that he will deliver a televised address to the nation on July 24th. This will be his first public speech since withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday.

Biden shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people.”

The president has been in isolation since testing positive for COVID-19 last week. He is expected to return from Delaware on Wednesday.

According to NBC News, preparations for the upcoming speech began shortly after Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race. Following his announcement, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, a decision quickly followed by other Democratic leaders.

Harris launched her first campaign as the Democratic presidential candidate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday. After receiving the pledged support of a majority of Democratic delegates, she secured the party’s nomination on Monday night.

“I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee,” Harris stated. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized that President Biden remains intensely focused on completing his remaining six months in office. This includes prioritizing peace in the Middle East and addressing the ongoing aggression from Russia.
