Biden Visits Syracuse to Announce $6.1 Billion Investment in Micron Chip Plants

President Joe Biden visited Syracuse on Thursday to announce a historic deal with Micron Technology, providing $6.1 billion in federal grants for the company’s planned $100 billion complex of computer chip plants.

The project, located in the town of Clay, is expected to create thousands of jobs and boost the region’s economy. Biden also highlighted the importance of the CHIPS and Science Act, which he signed into law in August. The act provides $52 billion in funding for semiconductor research and manufacturing in the United States.

Biden was joined by Governor Kathy Hochul, Senator Charles Schumer, and other state and local officials at Onondaga Community College for the announcement. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra also attended the event.

The Micron project is a major win for New York and the United States. It will help to strengthen the country’s semiconductor industry and create good-paying jobs. The project is also expected to have a positive impact on the environment, as it will use renewable energy sources.
