Billam-Smith vs. Riakporhe: WBO Cruiserweight Title Fight Set for June 15

Chris Billam-Smith, the reigning WBO cruiserweight world champion, is set to defend his title against undefeated challenger Richard Riakporhe on June 15, 2024, at Selhurst Park in London. The highly anticipated British bout will be streamed live, and today’s press conference in London saw the two fighters exchange heated words. Billam-Smith, who captured the WBO belt with a victory over Lawrence Okolie in May 2023 and retained it against Mateusz Masternak in December, boasts a record of 17-1. Riakporhe, known as “The Midnight Train,” has an unblemished record of 17-0 with 13 knockouts, including a stoppage victory over Dylan Bregeon in November. Interestingly, Riakporhe holds the only blemish on Billam-Smith’s record, having defeated him via split decision in July 2019. Billam-Smith has since disputed the verdict. During the press conference, Riakporhe issued a bold warning to his opponent, stating, “Chris Billam-Smith likes to talk a lot… if I see him at the press conference in some funny shoes then I’ll end him in two, if you run I’ll end you in one.” The stage is set for an explosive clash between two of Britain’s top cruiserweights. Chris Billam-Smith will be determined to retain his title and cement his status as a world champion, while Richard Riakporhe will be aiming to make history and claim the WBO cruiserweight crown.
