Birch Creek Energy, a St. Louis-based renewable energy company, has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of financing and full operation of its 42MW Altona Solar project in Missouri. This marks the first Birch Creek asset in the state to reach full operation, representing a key step in the company’s expansion of its independent power producer (IPP) strategy. The Altona Solar project joins the recently completed 49MW Earp Solar project in Illinois, signifying Birch Creek’s rapid progress in developing renewable energy infrastructure across the Midwest.
The project’s financing was secured through a collaborative effort between Celtic Bank and West Town Bank & Trust, both of whom have a strong track record in supporting renewable energy initiatives. Celtic Bank provided tax equity for the project, marking their continued involvement in Birch Creek’s endeavors after their participation in the Earp Solar project. West Town Bank & Trust, known for its expertise in solar financing through the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program, provided permanent debt for the Altona project. This collaborative financing model underscores the growing trend of financial institutions actively supporting the development of clean energy infrastructure.
Located in Audrain County, Missouri, the Altona Solar project spans 208 acres and connects to Ameren Missouri’s grid. The facility is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power over 6,300 homes, contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy goals.
