The betting world is buzzing with anticipation as HBO’s highly anticipated documentary, ‘Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,’ prepares to shed light on the enigmatic figure behind Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. The documentary, set to air on Tuesday, claims to unravel the “internet’s biggest mystery.” This has sparked intense speculation and a dramatic shift in the odds on who might be revealed as the elusive creator.
Just a day ago, late computer scientist Len Sassaman was the frontrunner, with odds of nearly 40% on the cryptocurrency-based prediction market, Polymarket. However, his odds have tumbled to 14.5%, a significant drop.
Meanwhile, the odds for Blockstream CEO Adam Back have increased marginally to 12%. However, the most notable change has been the rise of Nick Szabo, who was barely in the running before. Szabo’s odds have now soared to over 11%, even surpassing those for Sassaman earlier in the day.
Szabo was first linked to Bitcoin’s creation in 2013 through linguistic analyses and references to economist Carl Menger in the Bitcoin whitepaper. Although Szabo has consistently denied being Satoshi, his odds have been fueled by the fact that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted at his possible involvement, stating that Szabo was “more responsible” for Bitcoin’s creation than anyone else.
Sassaman’s name has been frequently linked to Satoshi. His death in July 2011, just prior to Nakamoto’s final communication with Bitcoin developers, has been cited as a coincidental but eerie connection, strengthening the theory.
The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains shrouded in mystery. It is believed that the pseudonymous creator holds around 1.1 million Bitcoin, according to on-chain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence, making them one of the wealthiest individuals in the world.
The upcoming documentary promises to bring this mystery to the forefront, leaving viewers eager to discover whether it will finally unveil the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.
