Amidst allegations of sexual assault against Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy maintains that the continuation of the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance in the state will be determined by the BJP leadership. Kumaraswamy asserts that his priority lies in ensuring justice for the victims of sexual assault, and he leaves the decision regarding the future of the alliance to the BJP. He emphasizes that he does not wish to create discomfort for anyone and that any decision in this regard will be made by the BJP leadership.
Kumaraswamy’s stance comes in response to queries about the status of the alliance, particularly in light of statements from certain BJP leaders indicating that the central leadership would make the final call. He credits the coalition with effectively challenging the Congress and impeding its progress. He further claims that the controversy surrounding the alliance has been orchestrated by the Congress in an attempt to sow discord among its constituents.
Sources within the JD(S) reveal that Kumaraswamy has been actively engaged in discussions with BJP central leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda, as well as with state BJP leaders like state unit president B.Y. Vijayendra and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.
Meanwhile, elections have been announced for six seats (three each for graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies) in the Karnataka Legislative Council, with the last date for nominations set as May 16. Sources within the JD(S) and BJP indicate that a meeting will be held soon to discuss the modalities of seat-sharing. The JD(S) is expected to field candidates in two of the seats.
