The Srimushnam police in Cuddalore district have filed a case against Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai for allegedly posting misleading content on social media regarding the post-poll death of a woman.
Mr. Annamalai, in a post on X Corp (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, had alleged that the victim, Gomathy, was beaten to death by DMK men during polling in Cuddalore district.
The police have booked Mr. Annamalai under sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC.
Earlier, the police had registered a case against three other individuals for spreading false information on social media platforms about the woman’s death.
