BJP Leads in Tripura Lok Sabha Elections, Set for Clean Sweep

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in both Lok Sabha seats in Tripura as the counting of votes commenced on June 4, according to the Election Commission’s website. BJP’s Biplab Kumar Deb has a commanding lead over his nearest rival, Asish Kumar Saha, in the Tripura West constituency, with a margin of 3,19,487 votes. Similarly, in the Tripura East constituency, BJP candidate Kriti Devi Debbarman is ahead of Rajendra Reang of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] by 2,92,164 votes.

In the previous Lok Sabha elections held in 2019, the BJP had emerged victorious in both constituencies with substantial margins. In Tripura West, the party had won by over 5 lakh votes, while in Tripura East, the victory margin had exceeded 4.8 lakh votes.

The voting for the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat took place on April 16, while the polling for Tripura East was held on April 26. The results are expected to be declared later today, and the BJP is poised to retain its dominance in the state.
