Black Bear Approaches People and Vehicles in Lloydminster, Warns RCMP

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has issued a warning to residents of Lloydminster, a city straddling the border of Alberta and Saskatchewan, after receiving reports that a black bear has been approaching people and vehicles in the area.

According to police, the bear was first spotted near an A & W restaurant in the east end of the city at 10:35 a.m. local time on Thursday. The RCMP has since been alerted to the situation and is working with Alberta Fish and Wildlife to track the bear’s movements and ensure public safety.

The RCMP is urging residents to take precautions to avoid encounters with the bear, including avoiding approaching or feeding it, keeping small children and pets indoors, and securing food and garbage. Residents are also advised to keep fences and doors closed and locked, and to report any sightings of the bear to the Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400.

Alberta Fish and Wildlife has also issued a warning to residents, reminding them that black bears are wild animals and should not be approached or fed. The organization recommends that people keep their distance from bears, and to report any sightings to the nearest Fish and Wildlife office.

Black bears are common in the Lloydminster area, and it is not uncommon for them to enter urban areas in search of food. However, it is important to remember that bears are wild animals and should be treated with respect. By following these precautions, residents can help to keep themselves and the bear safe.
