Multiple people reported seeing a black bear in various locations across Corvallis on Sunday morning, prompting officials to issue a warning to residents.
The Corvallis Police Department received multiple reports of the bear’s presence, beginning around 3 a.m. The bear was initially spotted in central and west Corvallis, before wandering to the Linn-Benton Community College campus and then to the Oregon State University diary fields. By 8 a.m., the bear had moved out of town.
Authorities cautioned residents to stay away from the bear and avoid any interaction. They emphasized the importance of seeking shelter indoors or retreating to vehicles with children and pets until the bear moves on. Officials believe the bear is likely attempting to return to its natural habitat and should be given space to do so.
The Corvallis Police Department is monitoring the situation in conjunction with the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). ODFW is prepared to respond and evaluate the situation in the event that the bear becomes stranded or exhibits concerning behavior.
Corvallis police have captured multiple images of the bear and shared them with the public on social media. Residents are encouraged to visit the ODFW website to learn more about bears and other wildlife.
