The incident occurred after Palmer had refused to give the ball back to Blackburn, leading to a confrontation between the two. Palmer appeared to be holding onto the ball near the touchline, prompting Eustace to approach him and request its return. However, Palmer refused, leading to an exchange of words between the pair.
Eustace then made physical contact with Palmer, shoving him in an attempt to retrieve the ball. The incident was spotted by referee Dean Whitestone, who immediately brandished a red card at Eustace. The Blackburn boss was visibly incensed by the decision and had to be restrained by his coaching staff as he made his way off the pitch.
The sending off was a major blow to Blackburn, who were already trailing 1-0 at the time. Coventry went on to score a second goal shortly after, effectively ending the game as a contest. Eustace’s dismissal will now see him serve a touchline ban for Blackburn’s next match, which is against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
