Last week’s emotional episode, “The Sign,” left fans heartbroken but also eager for the Season 3 finale. Episode 50, aptly titled “Surprise!”, delivered on its promise with a surprising revelation in its final moments.
As the episode closes on a seemingly ordinary day of Bingo and Bluey playing with their father, Bandit, the scene abruptly shifts forward in time. A grown-up Bluey arrives for a surprise visit, accompanied by her mother, Chili. As they walk through the living room, the doorbell rings again. Bandit answers, but no one is there. However, a puppy is hiding just out of sight, holding a toy gun similar to the one Bluey had been using in her game with Bandit.
Fans immediately speculated that the puppy was Bluey’s child, given its resemblance to her and the context of her arrival. However, this raised the intriguing question of who the puppy’s father might be. Two main theories have emerged, each with its own visual evidence.
Team Mackenzie points to Mackenzie, a Border Collie classmate of Bluey’s, who has similar ear positioning and fur blocking. Additionally, a past episode hinted at a future romance between Bluey and Mackenzie.
Team Jean-Luc, on the other hand, believes the puppy resembles Jean-Luc, a French-speaking Labrador Bluey met in Season 1. Despite language barriers, they formed a close bond and reunited years later in the episode “Camping.” Bluey’s baby’s bluish-purple coloring also matches Jean-Luc’s.
While both theories have their merits, it’s important to note that the show’s creators have left the identity of the puppy’s father intentionally ambiguous. Some speculate that this ambiguity was a deliberate choice to avoid disappointing fans, while others believe alternative theories, including adoption, are still possible.
The question of who fathered Bluey’s baby has become a hotly debated topic among fans, with no official answer from the show’s creator, Joe Brumm. The show’s future is also uncertain, with no announcement yet on Season 4. However, given the global popularity of Bluey, an abrupt ending seems unlikely. Brumm has hinted that the 28-minute episode “The Sign” could potentially lead to a Bluey movie.
