BMW is taking action to address potential safety concerns with its Mini Cooper SE electric vehicles. The company is recalling over 140,000 cars globally due to a risk of battery overheating. This recall specifically targets the Mini Cooper SE model and includes around 39,000 vehicles in Germany alone.
While there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this issue, BMW recognizes the potential seriousness of the problem. The company states that the battery system issues could lead to overheating, and in extreme cases, a fire even while the vehicle is parked cannot be ruled out.
To address this concern, the Mini Cooper SE’s software features a diagnostic function that can detect potential battery malfunctions. If a malfunction is detected, the car will alert the driver. In such cases, BMW advises owners to visit a Mini partner for inspection and necessary repairs.
This recall highlights the ongoing focus on safety and quality within the automotive industry, particularly in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. It also underscores the importance of addressing potential issues proactively to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
