Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok experienced a tense situation on Thursday when a bomb threat was reported on an incoming Thai VietJet Air flight from Danang, Vietnam. The airport received the alert at 2:45 PM, indicating a potential threat to flight VZ 961, which was carrying 120 passengers, six crew members, and 61 checked bags.
Fortunately, the threat turned out to be a false alarm. After the aircraft landed, emergency measures were swiftly implemented, and the airport’s general manager, Kittipong Kittikachorn, assured the public that the incident did not disrupt normal operations.
The passenger suspected of making the threat, a Polish woman, was immediately taken into custody by airport police. Authorities determined that the woman had not intended to plant a bomb or commit any act of sabotage. She had simply used “prohibited words” during the flight, seemingly without any malicious intent.
While the woman’s actions sparked a significant security response, officials emphasized that passengers worldwide must be aware that even casually mentioning the word “bomb” in an airport or on an aircraft can have serious consequences. The airline, Thai VietJet Air, stated that it does not plan to pursue legal action against the woman, who is scheduled to return to Poland on Thursday night.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of heightened security measures at airports and on airplanes. Passengers are urged to be mindful of their words and actions, as even seemingly harmless comments can be misinterpreted and lead to significant disruptions.
