Bomb Threats Ground Flights in Nepal: IndiGo, Akasa, and Vistara Affected

A wave of bomb threats targeting multiple flights in Nepal on October 22, 2024, has thrown the country’s aviation sector into turmoil. Flights operated by IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Vistara were among those affected, prompting immediate security responses at various airports.

The threats, which remain under investigation, prompted immediate action from authorities. Confirming the threat to a Vistara flight, Chief District Officer Jay Narayan Acharya stated, “Nepal Army bomb disposal team has been sent to the airport for complete inspection.”

Akasa Air, in a statement, acknowledged the security alerts received by some of its flights on October 22nd. “Some of our flights operating on October 22, 2024, have received security alerts today. The Akasa Air Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the security and regulatory authorities. We are following all safety and security procedures in coordination with local authorities and the Akasa Air teams on ground are prepared to assist passengers to ensure their safety and comfort,” the airline’s spokesperson said.

While no explosives were found during thorough security checks, the incidents caused significant disruption to air travel. Passengers experienced delays and cancellations, and airports were placed on high alert.

Authorities are investigating the source of the threats and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of air travelers. The incident underscores the ongoing threat posed by security breaches and the need for constant vigilance in the aviation industry.
