Bomb Threats Shake India: Hotels in Tirupati Targeted, Airlines Face Multiple Threats

A wave of bomb threats swept across India on October 24 and 25, targeting both hotels in Tirupati and numerous flights across various airlines. The threats, which caused significant disruption and raised security concerns, ultimately proved to be a hoax in the case of the hotels, but the incident highlights the ongoing challenge of dealing with such threats.

Tirupati Hotels Targeted

Three private hotels in the temple district of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, received email threats about bombs, according to an India Today report. The threats were reported to the police, who immediately responded with sniffer dogs and conducted thorough searches and investigations. Thankfully, no explosives were found, confirming the threats were a hoax. The hotels affected were located in the Leela Mahal, Kapila Theertham, and Alipiri areas. The police are currently investigating to identify the source of the threats and bring those responsible to justice.

The emails, with the subject line “Pak ISI to activate Improvised EDs in listed hotels, Evacuated by 11PM! TN CM involved,” alleged a connection to the arrest of former DMK functionary Jaffer Sadiq. The email claimed the threats were intended to divert attention away from the M.K Stalin family’s alleged involvement in the case.

Airlines Hit by Multiple Bomb Threats

Separately, a surge in bomb threats impacted numerous airlines across India on October 24. Approximately 70 new threats were reported, affecting major players such as Air India, Vistara, Akasa Air, and IndiGo.

According to a PTI report, around 20 flights each from Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo received bomb threats, while Akasa Air experienced threats for about 14 flights. This wave of threats adds to a concerning trend, as in the past 11 days, nearly 250 flights operated by Indian carriers have been targeted.

In response to the threats, airlines have implemented strict security protocols, alerted authorities, and conducted thorough inspections of aircraft and passengers. Air India officials emphasized their commitment to passenger and crew safety, stating that all security procedures were followed in accordance with regulatory guidance. Akasa Air also confirmed that its Emergency Response teams were monitoring the situation and cooperating with security and regulatory authorities to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

These incidents underscore the importance of vigilance and effective security measures in the face of increasing threats. Authorities are investigating the source of these threats to ensure the safety of all citizens and to prevent future occurrences.
