BorgWarner Expands its Reach in the Electric Vehicle Market with Three Major HVCH Wins
BorgWarner, a leading global product innovator, has secured three significant business wins for its High Voltage Coolant Heater (HVCH) technology, showcasing its growing influence in the electric vehicle (EV) market. This latest success expands the company’s footprint into China, Korea, and Japan, marking a significant step forward in its global expansion.
A Surge in Asian EV Markets
In China, a prominent domestic automaker has selected BorgWarner’s HVCH for use in a fully electric SUV, with production slated to begin in the second quarter of 2025. This partnership signifies BorgWarner’s commitment to capitalizing on China’s rapidly evolving EV industry.
In Korea, BorgWarner’s HVCH technology will be integrated into an electric pick-up truck, with production kicking off in March 2025. The HVCH will play a vital role in managing cabin temperatures, optimizing energy efficiency, and enhancing the overall driving experience.
Japan, known for its advanced technological advancements, has also embraced BorgWarner’s HVCH technology. A Japanese Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) has selected the company’s HVCH for use in a battery-electric vehicle, with production starting in 2028. This marks BorgWarner’s first HVCH program in Japan, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in the country’s growing EV market.
The Benefits of BorgWarner’s HVCH Technology
BorgWarner’s HVCH technology stands out for its compact, modular design, minimizing size and weight. By ensuring uniform temperature distribution within the battery pack and its cells, the HVCH enhances battery energy performance in both electric and hybrid vehicles.
Additionally, it enables rapid cabin heating, improving both driving comfort and passenger experience. With high thermal power density and quick response times due to low thermal mass, these heaters help extend driving range by consuming less power from the battery.
A Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Turbos and Thermal Technologies, commented on the company’s recent successes: “These three important business wins underscore the strength of BorgWarner’s HVCH technology and further solidify our relationships with important Asian OEMs. Our cost-effective, efficient heating solution is able to meet the evolving needs of global electric vehicle manufacturers and continues to drive our success in key regions.”
These recent wins demonstrate BorgWarner’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for the global automotive industry. The company’s advanced HVCH technology is poised to play a critical role in the future of electric mobility, supporting the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system.
