Bottas Confident in Sauber Future Despite Uncertain Seat: ‘I Should Be in That Seat’

Valtteri Bottas, a ten-time Formula One race winner, is facing an uncertain future with Sauber, but the experienced Finn remains confident in his ability to secure a seat for the upcoming season. While Bottas acknowledges the possibility of being replaced by younger drivers as the team transitions to becoming the factory Audi outfit in 2026, he maintains a strong belief in his value to the team.

Bottas, who joined Sauber after a successful stint with Mercedes, has been waiting for a decision regarding his future with the team. He expressed his frustration at the delay, stating, “There’s nothing I can do at the moment, it’s not in my hands.” Despite the uncertainty, he remains determined to perform at his best, hoping it will sway the decision in his favor.

Sauber’s decision will hinge on their strategic direction: will they opt for two experienced drivers or invest in young talent? The team has already secured veteran Nico Hulkenberg from Haas, leaving one seat open. Bottas faces competition from promising youngsters like Mick Schumacher, F2 leader Gabriel Bortoleto, and Franco Colapinto.

Bottas, however, is confident in his own abilities. He has emphasized his belief that he is the best choice for Sauber, stating, “I really feel and believe that I should be in that seat. I feel like I would be best for the interest of the team.” He has also confirmed that financial considerations are not a factor in his pursuit of the seat.

Bottas acknowledges the challenges of demonstrating his performance on a team that is currently struggling. Sauber is the only team yet to score a point this season, making it difficult for drivers to shine. Bottas states, “If you don’t have the car, it’s really difficult to show what you can do.” He recognizes that the team’s performance is crucial in the decision-making process.

However, Bottas remains optimistic, placing his trust in new Sauber boss Mattia Binotto. Binotto, a former Ferrari principal, joined the team in August and is expected to play a pivotal role in the team’s future direction. Bottas is confident that Binotto recognizes his value and will make the right decision.

The Formula One community is eagerly awaiting Sauber’s announcement regarding their driver lineup. With Bottas’ strong belief in his abilities and his trust in Binotto, the experienced Finn remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
