The box office battle between two contrasting films, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, and Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra,’ has delivered a clear verdict in its first week. Despite releasing on the same date, the films have seen a stark difference in their performance, with ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ taking the lead.
‘Jigra,’ which garnered significant attention before its release, stumbled out of the gates. Its opening day collection was a mere ₹ 4.25 crore, marking Alia Bhatt’s lowest opening since her 2014 film ‘Highway.’ This was a stark contrast to ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala,’ which opened strong with ₹ 5.5 crore.
While ‘Jigra’ experienced a slight resurgence on day 2, earning ₹ 6.55 crore, it couldn’t sustain the momentum. Daily collections steadily declined, reaching ₹ 22.45 crore by the end of the first week.
On the other hand, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ continued its strong performance. The film witnessed a 24.45% jump on day 2, raking in ₹ 6.9 crore. While daily collections did fall for ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ as well, they remained significantly higher than ‘Jigra,’ culminating in a ₹ 27 crore total for the first week.
As of day 11, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ stands at a formidable ₹ 34.35 crore, while ‘Jigra’ trails behind at ₹ 27.80 crore. This clearly indicates the audience’s preference for the comedic and lighthearted narrative of ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ over the dramatic and intense storyline of ‘Jigra.’ This victory for ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ also highlights the power of a strong opening and the importance of sustaining momentum at the box office.
It remains to be seen if ‘Jigra’ can regain its footing and make a comeback in the coming weeks, but as of now, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ has emerged as the clear winner in this box office clash.
