Boy Receives Belated First Birthday Card Almost Nine Years Late

A young boy, Alfie Wilson, was astonished to receive a first birthday card almost nine years after it was initially mailed. The card was sent by his aunt, Sally, in October 2015, but it somehow became lost in the postal system and was only recently delivered. Alfie’s father, Richard, was initially puzzled when he received a postcard from Royal Mail indicating that the card lacked sufficient postage. He paid a £2.50 fee to have the card delivered and was surprised to find a belated birthday greeting for his son, who is now nearly ten years old. Alfie was equally surprised but amused to receive a first birthday card when he is almost a decade old. He was even more thrilled when he received a £10 apology from Royal Mail. Richard contacted Royal Mail to complain about having to pay for the late card, and the company apologized for the inconvenience and refunded the family £10.80. Royal Mail also sent a book of first-class stamps and a £10 check to Alfie as a gesture of goodwill. Royal Mail acknowledged the delay in delivering the card but could not provide an explanation for where it had been for the past eight and a half years. Richard and his sister joked about the possibility of Alfie being the first child to receive and read a first birthday card at the age of ten. Richard’s friend, who works for Royal Mail, encouraged him to complain about the late delivery, and Richard tweeted his frustration to the company. Royal Mail responded promptly, apologized, and rectified the situation. The family was satisfied with the company’s response and expressed their appreciation for the apology and compensation.
