This is why he hopes his show, based on the memoir by reporter Amy Chozik, will offer viewers a similar sense of relief.
‘Call Your Mother’ follows four journalists (Melissa Benoist, Carla Gugino, Christina Elmore, and Natasha Behnam) as they cover a contentious election cycle. Scott, who plays a Democratic press secretary named Loafers, believes the show offers an escape from the fatigue surrounding political stories, especially in the current news cycle. He emphasizes the show’s humor, heart, and hopefulness, aiming to entertain viewers while also potentially inspiring them to become more engaged with political issues or even pursue journalism as a career.
Scott’s preparation for the role included visiting Washington, D.C. for the first time and interviewing various press secretaries and campaign managers. He was particularly inspired by the experience of walking through the halls of The Capitol. As an actor, Scott is known for his curiosity and interest in exploring diverse genres, including musicals, horror, and romantic comedies. He has also expressed a desire to star in a biopic about Marvin Gaye or Sam Cooke.
