Travis d’Arnaud Homers Again, Bryce Elder Shines in Braves’ 3-0 Win
Travis d’Arnaud continued his impressive hitting display with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 3-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night. Bryce Elder, recalled from Triple-A earlier in the day, turned in a superb performance on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 shutout innings.
d’Arnaud’s homer extended his recent surge to five home runs in four games. The Braves catcher also added a single, his first non-homer hit in six at-bats.
Elder, who made the NL All-Star team last season, scattered eight hits while striking out four and walking none. His performance was especially impressive considering he had struggled in the second half of 2023 and began this season in the minors.
After the Marlins threatened in the first inning, Elder settled down and retired the next nine batters he faced. He ended the second and sixth innings with double plays to prevent any Miami runners from scoring.
The Braves bullpen preserved the shutout, with Pierce Johnson, A.J. Minter, and Raisel Iglesias combining to allow only one hit over the final 2 1/3 innings.
With the win, the Braves improved to 7-1 in their last eight games. They will face the Marlins again on Tuesday in the middle game of the series.
