Brian Kato Kaelin, a key witness in the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial, has shared Barbara Walters’ reaction to the acquittal of the former NFL star in 1995.
Kaelin gained media attention as Simpson’s houseguest during the highly publicized trial surrounding the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. In a recent interview with People magazine, Kaelin recalled the moment the verdicts were announced, revealing that he was sitting beside Walters while preparing for a segment on ABC’s “20/20”.
According to Kaelin, Walters asked him, “What do you think of the decision?” to which he replied, “I think the jury made a mistake.”
Kaelin, who dined with Walters on several occasions, stated that she appeared to agree with his sentiment, subtly nodding in response.
Kaelin also spoke about his pivotal role in the trial, testifying that he heard a “bump” outside on the night of the murders and saw Simpson in his yard, which the prosecution argued indicated Simpson’s involvement.
Despite his key testimony, Kaelin later admitted that his association with the case hindered his aspirations for a serious career in show business.
Kaelin maintained his belief that Simpson was guilty of the murders, while acknowledging that he was “not a fan of his”. He also mentioned that he never witnessed any physical violence between Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson, despite Simpson’s prior arrest for spousal abuse.
