Brian Lara has pinpointed the qualities that impressed him about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock against Mumbai Indians on Monday, April 22, as the Rajasthan Royals batter roared back to form.
Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 104, anchoring RR’s comfortable win against Mumbai, completing a double over the five-time champions and moving closer to the playoff spots.
With the T20 World Cup selection just around the corner, Jaiswal’s timely return to form is significant, and Lara, speaking to Star Sports, praised the young batter’s composure and shot selection against MI.
‘It’s a beautiful innings by the young man,’ Lara said. ‘He takes his time, looks at the ball right close to the bat, and he’s playing proper cricket shots.’
Lara believes Jaiswal’s versatility as an all-format player for India means he doesn’t need to worry about the range of shots in his arsenal. He particularly admired the way Jaiswal put together a well-constructed innings with great cricketing shots.
‘When you get on top of the bowlers, that’s when you take advantage,’ Lara said. ‘And that’s what I love about this innings. It was well put together. Great cricketing shots.’
Jaiswal had managed only 121 runs from seven matches before his century on Monday, and he will be hoping to continue his momentum when RR travel to Lucknow to face Lucknow Super Giants on April 27.
