The popular Netflix series “Bridgerton” is back for a third season, and the stars are sharing their experiences filming the show’s racy scenes. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, and Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, recently visited Australia for a premiere screening of the new season and revealed that they broke furniture while filming their intimate scenes.
“Hell yeah, we did (break some furniture),” Coughlan told . “We just laughed, and I think Nicola spoke in her Irish accent and I thought, ‘It would have been so special,’ I mean maybe it will be in the final cut, us breaking into laughter because I think that’s quite Colin and Pen.”
Newton added that they felt comfortable exploring the scenes in a safe space, led by an intimacy coordinator. “We feel very lucky that we know these characters so well, we know how they would get into these situations and how that would work,” he said.
The new season focuses on Penelope and Colin’s friends-to-lovers story, with both characters experiencing an internal glow-up. “Penelope has this makeover in episode one, but it’s all aesthetic, and she hasn’t done any inner work — so all those same struggles are there,” Coughlan said. “So it’s a gradual glow up internally throughout the season — and Colin too.”
Newton explained that he wanted to show Colin’s growth as a character in this season. “For me when I first read the scripts and I saw that he comes back as a more mature adult version of himself I just wanted to dive into that and I was given to opportunity to. I wanted him to come back and feel that sense of like he’d been on his gap year, he’d come back, he’d really grown up, become a man, and I wanted to just embody that physically and emotionally.”
The “Bridgerton” world tour is set to continue to The Netherlands, Ireland, South Africa, the UK, Brazil, the US, Canada, Italy and Poland. Fans can expect more passionate scenes and character development in the upcoming season.
