Bridget Jones Sequel Update: Colin Firth’s Mark Darcy May Be Absent

Hugh Grant has recently shared some intriguing details about the upcoming Bridget Jones sequel, ‘Mad About the Boy.’ In an interview with PEOPLE, the actor hinted that Colin Firth’s beloved character Mark Darcy might not be featured in the fourth installment of the franchise. The forthcoming film will see Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant reprise their iconic roles as Bridget Jones and Daniel Cleaver, respectively. New additions to the cast include Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Hugh Grant revealed that the script for the sequel is an adaptation of Helen Fielding’s novel of the same name. He explained, ‘It’s partly based on Helen Fielding’s experiences of bringing up two children by herself after her husband died.’ Grant continued, ‘And so Bridget is bringing up two kids and wondering whether she should ever go back to dating. It’s a very good script.’ The new movie, directed by Michael Morris, will mark the return of Bridget Jones eight years after the release of ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ in 2016. The previous film concluded with Bridget marrying Mark Darcy and discovering his paternity of her child. Earlier, Hugh Grant expressed his enthusiasm for the latest installment, telling Entertainment Tonight, ‘I’ll tell you what, I think this script for the fourth Bridget is the best one of the four. And, in fact, one of the best scripts I have read in a long time.’
