British Tourist Mauled by Bear in Romania
A 72-year-old British tourist has been mauled by a bear in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains while attempting to take photos of the animal.
The woman, who has not been named, was driving with her partner near the Transfăgărășan mountain road in Argeş County, southern Romania, when she spotted two playful-looking bears. She lowered the window to take pictures with her phone, but one of the bears suddenly got onto its hind legs and put its paws into the car.
It then chomped down on the unsuspecting woman’s arm, prompting her partner to quickly put their foot on the gas to escape. The woman was rushed to a hospital after the terrifying encounter on Monday.
Doctors have since confirmed that the woman’s injuries are not life-threatening. Speaking from her hospital bed, the tourist said: “We were in the car and we were going to take a picture. And the bears came up to the window.”
Despite the attack, the tourist managed to capture an impressive snapshot of the bear up close, with one of its giant paws inside the car.
Following the attack, police have deployed teams to drive the bears away from the area and have advised residents and tourists to keep a safe distance from wild animals.
This incident highlights the importance of exercising caution when encountering wildlife in their natural habitat. Tourists should always respect the boundaries of wild animals and refrain from approaching or attempting to interact with them.
