49ers CEO Jed York recently expressed the team’s eagerness to reward Purdy with a significant contract extension once he becomes eligible after the 2023 season. York described the situation as a ‘good problem’ to have, highlighting the importance of the quarterback position in football.
Purdy is poised to become the 49ers’ highest-paid player and potentially among the most well-compensated quarterbacks in the NFL. Despite his impending wealth, Purdy maintains his focus on the team’s success.
‘I’m just trying to do everything I can for this organization this year,’ Purdy said. ‘Everything else happens how it happens.’
While Purdy acknowledges the business aspects of professional football, his passion for the game and his commitment to his craft remain paramount. He strives to continuously improve and represent the 49ers in a positive light.
‘It’s a business, obviously, too,’ Purdy said. ‘But for me, I love this game. I love just competing with these guys in this organization. I love this organization, and I want to continue to represent myself for them, and in the right way.’
Purdy’s current annual salary of $934,253 ranks him as the 90th highest-paid quarterback in the league. However, his ascent to the top of the pay scale is expected to be swift. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow currently holds the highest yearly average at $55 million.
