Afternoon Tea Week, celebrated from August 12th to 18th, is a great time to indulge in this beloved British tradition. Browns, a popular brasserie chain with locations across the UK, is fully embracing the occasion with a special collaboration with Moët & Chandon. I recently had the opportunity to experience this luxurious afternoon tea myself at the Covent Garden branch in London.
The experience begins with a selection of savory sandwiches, ranging from classic Ploughmans with Cheddar, sticky pickle, and sliced apple to a modern take on the seafood sarnie – a brioche roll with lobster tail in Sicilian lemon and dill mayonnaise. Next comes the all-important scone tier, where guests can choose from freshly baked plain or fruit scones, served with clotted cream and strawberry or blackcurrant jam. Finally, the afternoon tea is finished off with a delightful array of desserts, including mini carrot and orange cake and the quintessentially British Blackcurrant Victoria sponge. There’s truly something for everyone, and you can’t go wrong with a classic Victoria sponge.
Of course, no afternoon tea is complete without a hot cup of tea. Browns offers a variety of options, including breakfast and herbal teas, to perfectly complement the sweet and savory treats.
For those looking to elevate their experience, there’s the option to add a glass of champagne or cocktail. Choose from an ice-cold flute of Moët & Chandon Impérial Champagne or Rosé Champagne, or opt for a Champagne Cosmo made with Discarded Grape Skin Vodka, Chambord, and Cointreau, shaken with cranberry and lime, and topped with Moët & Chandon Impérial Champagne.
Browns also offers bespoke vegetarian and gluten-free afternoon teas, all accredited by Coeliac UK.
As part of the launch, Browns and Moët & Chandon are offering exclusive luxury champagne coasters to all guests who enjoy the Champagne Afternoon Tea until the end of August. These custom-made coasters come in pairs, each featuring the iconic logo of one of the partner brands.
The afternoon tea menu is available nationwide from 3-5pm every day, and from 1-4pm in their exclusive afternoon tea room in London’s Covent Garden. Prices vary by location, starting at:
* Classic Afternoon Tea – £25 per person
* Champagne Afternoon Tea – £35 per person
