Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister T. Harish Rao has accused the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of colluding to deceive the people of Telangana. He alleged that the two parties are helping each other in eight Parliamentary Constituencies each as part of a tacit understanding.
Rao, speaking at a press conference organized by the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) in Hyderabad, dismissed media predictions of BRS’s weakening in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that there was a silent wave of support for the party and predicted that it would win a majority of the seats.
Rao criticized the Congress government’s ‘praja palana’ (public welfare) initiatives, accusing them of deceit and harassment of political opponents. He highlighted that of the 13 promised benefits, only free travel in RTC buses for women was fully implemented, while gas cylinders for ₹500 and 200 units of free energy supply to every below-poverty-line household were being implemented partially.
The BRS leader questioned the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises of financial assistance to women, agricultural support, and social security enhancements. He emphasized that despite promises to implement these measures within the first 100 days, they remained unfulfilled.
Rao reiterated his pledge to resign as an MLA if the six guarantees and ₹2 lakh farm loan waiver were not implemented in full by August 15. He also urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to step down if the promises were not kept.
Rao cited the issues of distributing Hindus’ properties to minorities and scrapping the reservation system as examples of the ‘understanding for mutual benefit’ between the Congress and BJP. He stated that these issues were raised despite their constitutional impracticality.
The BRS leader emphasized the crucial role of regional parties in forming the next government at the center.
