Boston Bruins Host Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 2 of First-Round NHL Playoff Series
The Boston Bruins will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night, April 22, in Game 2 of the first round of the NHL playoffs with a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Jeremy Swayman made 35 saves in Game 1, leading the Bruins to a 5-1 victory on Saturday night. Bruins rookie Jonny Beecher scored on his first career postseason shot on goal to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into Game 1.
The Maple Leafs are anxious to end a half-century Stanley Cup drought and snap Canada’s 30-year slump — or at least build on last year, when they won a playoff series for the first time since 2004. But to do it, they’ll have to get past an Original Six nemesis. Saturday’s outcome wasn’t a good start. Toronto hasn’t beaten the Bruins in the playoffs in six tries since 1959. Boston also swept the regular-season series 4-0.
The Bruins are expected to start Linus Ullmark in net instead of Swayman. Swayman, who played three of the four games against Toronto, was 25-10-8 overall in 43 starts with a 2.53 goals-against average and Ullmark was 22-10-7 in 39 starts, allowing 2.57 goals per game.
Toronto forward William Nylander will be a game-time decision after missing Saturday’s game with an undisclosed injury. Nylander (40 goals, 58 assists, 98 points) finished the season as Toronto’s second-leading scorer.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+ at 7 p.m. EDT. You can also live stream the game on fuboTV, Sling TV, and DirecTV Stream.
