Brussels Airlines is embarking on a unique journey to celebrate Belgian identity and creativity by launching a design contest for its next ‘Belgian Icon’ aircraft. The national airline is calling on all Belgians, residents or citizens aged 16 and above, to submit their vision for a livery that embodies the essence of their country.
The chosen design will grace one of Brussels Airlines’ aircraft, becoming a vibrant symbol of Belgian culture and a source of pride for the nation. The contest kicks off with a call for entries, inviting participants to express their creativity and artistic talent in capturing the spirit of Belgium.
In early October, the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design, ultimately determining the look of the next Belgian Icon. This initiative is not just about showcasing Belgium to the world through air travel but also through the collective creativity of its people, making this iconic aircraft even more representative of the nation.
Michel Moriaux, Head of Marketing at Brussels Airlines, emphasized the importance of authenticity and originality in the design: “The design has to be something Belgium is known for, and Belgians are proud of, without entering too much into clichés. The next Belgian Icon will not feature beer, fries, or waffles, for example, but we love to showcase our culture, nature, or history. As with all our previous Belgian Icons, the design must have a ‘wow-factor’ and inspire people to visit Belgium.”
These iconic planes, celebrated for their unique representations of Belgian culture, have become some of the most photographed in the world. The new Belgian Icon design contest is a testament to Brussels Airlines’ commitment to showcasing Belgium’s rich heritage and vibrant spirit to a global audience, connecting the nation to the world through air travel and the power of creativity.
