The collapse of one of the pagodas at the Temple of a Million Bottles in Amphoe Khun Harn District, Sisaket province, was captured on footage that showed broken pieces of the temple scattered on the ground. The roof of the ruined temple remained somewhat intact, sitting atop the rubble. Despite the collapse, the temple’s abbot, Phra Waiphot Thammaparo, who built the structure, remains determined to restore it using recycled materials, fulfilling the dream of his father, Luang Pho Lod, who made the temple famous worldwide. The abbot explained that the collapse occurred due to uneven weight distribution and insufficient support from pillars, which were limited by the size of metal used due to financial constraints. The construction of the new temple will continue to utilize bottles, as it was the dream of the abbot’s father and a testament to the temple’s unique and sustainable design.
