A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru’s Babusapalya area on Tuesday, October 22, when a building under construction collapsed amid heavy rainfall. This heartbreaking event resulted in at least one worker’s death, with five others feared trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue teams have successfully extricated 14 workers from the debris, but the search for the remaining five continues. The seven-story structure collapsed dramatically, resembling a “house of cards,” as captured by CCTV footage.
Witnesses reported that the collapse occurred around 1:00 PM. Bengaluru police, along with fire and emergency services, quickly arrived on the scene, joined by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying moments leading up to the collapse. One worker on a lunch break heard a loud crash followed by violent shaking and witnessed a colleague trapped inside.
This tragedy comes as Bengaluru faces relentless rainfall over the past three days, resulting in significant waterlogging throughout neighborhoods and on roadways. The city is currently grappling with severe flooding, highlighting the vulnerability of its infrastructure during heavy downpours.
Authorities are working tirelessly to rescue the trapped individuals and clear the debris, holding onto hope for the missing workers’ survival.
