A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru’s Babusapalya area on Tuesday, October 22, when a building under construction collapsed amidst heavy rainfall. The incident resulted in at least one worker losing their life, with five others feared trapped beneath the rubble.

While rescue teams have managed to pull out 14 workers from the debris, the search continues for the missing five. The building, described as a seven-story structure, crumbled like a ‘house of cards,’ as captured by a CCTV camera.

According to local residents, the collapse occurred around 1:00 PM. The Bengaluru police, along with fire and emergency department rescue vans, were swiftly dispatched to the scene. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have also joined the rescue efforts.

Eye-witness accounts paint a harrowing picture of the incident. A worker who was on a lunch break recounted hearing a loud sound followed by the building shaking violently. He witnessed the death of another worker who was trapped inside.

The tragic incident comes at a time when Bengaluru is grappling with incessant rains for the past three days, causing widespread waterlogging in residential areas and roads. The city is facing severe flooding, highlighting the vulnerability of infrastructure during heavy rainfall.

The authorities are working tirelessly to rescue the trapped individuals and clear the debris. The search and rescue operation remains ongoing, with hopes of finding the missing workers alive.
